Eastern North Carolina has been hit hard by Hurricane Florence, and the impact of the storm will continue to be felt for weeks to come.
LaunchProgress candidate Da'Quan Love lives in Duplin County, one of the counties hit hardest by the storm. Thousands are without power, and six people from the community have already died.
In addition to opening his home in Warsaw to anyone who needs to charge their phone, use a grill, or refridgerate medicine, Da'Quan has suggested people donate to the Kenansville Eastern Missionary Baptist Association (KEMBA). KEMBA is a network of black churches that is distributing food and supplies at their 30+ member congregations in the affected areas.
Legal Aid NC is also assisting survivors of Florence who rely on federal benefits to continue to access those benefits, including food through SNAP/WIC, in the aftermath of the storm. And if you live in North Carolina, the Southern Vision Alliance is organizing supply drop-off locations and mutual aid relief volunteers.
Our thoughts are with our friends in North Carolina and all those affected by the storm.
