Announcing our first 2015 and 2016 endorsements!

We’re excited to announce our first endorsements of 2015 and 2016! We have endorsed three young, progressive candidates in Michigan, North Carolina, and Ohio:

  • Andrew Barnhill (Wilmington, NC) is running for State Senate in North Carolina’s 9th District
  • Josh Cartee (Chillicothe, OH) is running for Chillicothe City Council in Ohio
  • Brian Stone (Dearborn, MI) is running for State Assembly in Michigan’s 15th District

LaunchProgress PAC invests in young, ambitious candidates running for state and local office to build the bench for progressives in higher offices and national leadership positions. Our candidates are dedicated to tackling the most important issues the country will face in the coming decades, including election reform, equality, education, and individual liberty and security.

“I am running for Chillicothe City Council to help make sure future generations of our city have the opportunities they deserve,” said Josh Cartee, candidate for Chillicothe City Council in Ohio in 2015. “To do that, we have to open the lines of communication between government and residents, attract 21st-Century jobs to our region, and make sure that young professionals have a reason to return to Chillicothe after they graduate from college. Like our campaign, LaunchProgress recognizes that progressive policies lead to stronger communities. I am humbled and excited to have their endorsement.”

“Just like generations of my family before me, I am committed to serving my home state of North Carolina,” said Andrew Barnhill, who is running for North Carolina’s 9th Senate District in 2016. “The North Carolina I see today, however, is one hurting for a positive vision of progress and searching for a generation of leaders that understands the challenges facing today's families, business owners, and educators. I am appreciative of groups such as LaunchProgress that care deeply about building a more hopeful coalition of leaders who are willing to tackle the most pressing public problems across America.”

“I'm deeply humbled and excited by LaunchProgress' endorsement for my Democratic candidacy in Michigan's 15th State House district for 2016,” said 2016 candidate Brian Stone. “I'm ready to honor that endorsement by taking my message to the people: We need to invest in infrastructure, roads and mass transit to support Michigan's workers; We need to expand opportunity through public education to include two years of community college or vocational training for every Michigander; and we need to take better care of Michigan's veterans and first responders so none of our heroes are left behind. As a progressive Democrat, a civil rights advocate, a life-long Dearborn resident and a decorated Navy veteran, my message to voters is simple: I'm ready to serve again.”

In 2014, our first election cycle, we endorsed ten candidates running for state legislative seats in Ohio, Michigan, and North Carolina. With nine candidates facing November 2014 elections, we won five races, or 56% of our campaigns. Of the five successful candidates, three women, three people of color, and one openly gay candidate were elected to office. All were first time candidates.

Support young progressives and help us build the bench today!
